Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman was born on May 25, 1994. She is a retired American artist gymnast. She was the captain of the 2012 "Fierce Five" and the"Fierce Five" in 2016 "Final Five," U.S. women’s Olympic gymnastics team. In the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, she took home a gold in the team event, making her and teammate Gabby Douglas the only Americans to have back-toback team gold medals. Raisman won silver medals for the individual all-around, and floor exercise. She is the 3rd most accomplished American gymnast in Olympic history, following Shannon Miller and Simone Biles who have won six Olympic medals.Raisman was also a member of the gold-winning American teams at the 2011 and 2015 World Championships, and the world bronze medalist on floor exercise in the year 2011. She also is the two-time champion of national floor exercise (2012,2015), the 2012 champion national of balance beam, and five times medalist at the national championships all around (silver in 2016, and silver in 2012, 2011 in 2012, 2011, and the year 2015). In 2013 she was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was the daughter of Lynn Faber, the former gymnast from high school as well as Rick Raisman, on May 25 1994 in Needham. She is the mother of three children, Madison, Chloe and Brett. Raisman is Jewish and says that "I am very grateful for being able to not only represent the U.S.A but also the Jewish Community everywhere." Raisman started gymnastics at eighteen months. She attributes her early passion for the sport to the "Magnificent Seven", a U.S. women's gymnastics team which took home a gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics. She trained at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing until the level of 8. After that, she joined Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club with coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Raisman graduated from Needham High School in 2012, after completing her senior year online classes while training for the Olympics.
